vicky: Just hopping bye feel free to visit my site I enjoyed my visit
Jerusha: Hey there! You can try to reach me today, but unless you call in about 5 minutes, you won't catch us. You'll probably have better luck on Monday... I'd say Sunday, but I don't know what we're doing yet. :D It's Pat's last day off before another 8 day stretch, so we'll probably be trying to get out.

Please type in the four characters shown in the black box.

Where have we gone wrong?

Gads ... if I hear "It's only a (insert whatever animal is in question)" one more time I'm likely to take someone's head off!

What the hell is wrong with people?  Did we as society screw up so bad that even the nicest individual has no fucking clue that how we treat our animal companions is a reflection of how we feel about other people?  I can't tell you how many times I've gotten the "blank stare" when trying to explain to someone that they are causing pain to fish that are kept in a tank that is too small ... or that their dog barks because they leave it outside and never give it attention ... or that their bird plucks it's feathers because it's lonely.  I was watching a tv show a bit ago and a comment was made that some people feel it's a waste of time and resources to save the life of someones dog or cat that is in trouble ... how can this be a waste?!?  This is a living creature that loves and is loved by someone.

Thank the God and Goddess that our police and firefighters don't feel this way.  Hell, even if you don't believe all life is sacred (I certainly do) it's still a life!  And when we (either individually or as a society) decide that one life isn't worth the effort, where does that take us?  And I think the "throw away" mentality our society has now just exacerbates things.  Don't want to train that puppy?  Take it back and get another.  What's next?  Your kid doesn't have the right hair or eye color so you'll just send him to an orphanage?  I'm by no means a perfect person, but I at least own up to the responsibilities I've taken on.  I love all my animals as if they were my children, and I'd do anything in my power to help them ... period.

I have grave concerns for where our society is going if we don't wake up soon.  Our so-called medical professionals would rather hand us a bunch of pills than treat the cause of our problems ... our legal system places so much weight on protecting the criminals rights that the victims get victimized again ... our workplaces have become a den of paranoia because no one wants to take personal responsibility for their actions ... the list goes on and on.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty fed up.

Hatin' life ...

  • Mood: Tired
  • Weather: Hot and muggy

I am sooo hating life right now.  As if the 14 1/2 hour day last Friday wasn't bad enough, the work problems are seemingly unending right now.  And then I come home today (ready to jet out to dinner for hubby's birthday) only to find that 40 out of 60 gallons in one of my discus tanks has gone  ... somewhere!

Needless to say, we were late for our dinner reservation and I think the kids thought I was completely insane (they got to the house about 10 minutes after I did) running around trying to refill the tank and figure out where the leak came from.  Sigh

So, my oak flooring is a bit unhappy, the tank stand may or may not be OK, one of the light ballasts shorted out (thank Goddess it just died and didn't start a fire) and I'll have to replace 6 books.  A nice little $300 problem.  At least it wasn't worse.

On the up side ... the fish appear to be fine (I was able to get the replacement water within a 1/2 degree of the tank water), nothing else is broken (filter, heaters, and air pump are all still working as is the other light fixture), the computer didn't get wet, the outlet behind the tank didn't get wet, and I'm 99.9% sure I figured out what happened.  Sheesh

Been a little busy....

  • Mood: Tired, but happy
  • Weather: Warm and muggy (ew!)
  • Where: Home

Wow ... time flies, whether your having fun or not.  My poor fish had to wait a couple of days for their water changes since I got stuck on the freeway on the way home Wednesday night.  It took an hour and a half to go what should have taken about 5 minutes.   By the time I got home, I was just too tired and stressed to deal with them.  Even missed my chiro appointment.

So they got done today.  And not just water changes, but a good cleaning of the filters and an algae scraping too.  Work is going to get a bit insane starting next week (for the next few months) so I figured I get them all tended to now so I can just do quick water changes while things are crazy elsewhere ... thank the gods for my Python system!

I should have done the laundry today as well, but I decided to do some beading instead ... better to be relaxed so I can finish my chores tomorrow, right?   I've posted some pics of the last few sessions at http://www.lafn.org/~as730/New_Jewelry_2.html .  And now it's late, so I think I'll head off to bed so I can get up at an ungodly hour (at least for a Sunday!) tomorrow so I can get the rest of the stuff done I need to do this weekend.

Ugh ...

Wow - this whole week is turning out to be too much fun (yes folks, that was dripping with sarcasm).

My poor fish need their tanks cleaned, and I just don't have the energy.  And I didn't get around to fertilizing the plants in there again.  Sigh.  Hopefully the algae won't take over in the next day or so.  I planned on doing them today, but after taking the truck in for service, work, picking the truck up, dealing with mail, dinner, and a shower, it's way too late and I'm ready for bed.

Tomorrow for sure ... water changes, filter cleanings, and fertilizing.  Honest.

I met the new kid assigned to me at work today and he seems like he'll be a good addition.  Not aggressive at all, but I don't think he'll take any guff either.  If I'm lucky, he'll pick up on things quick enough I can use him to give myself a little break here and there over the next few months.  **fingers crossed**

Mondays....

  • Mood: Tired
  • Weather: Cool & Cloudy
  • Where: Home (finally!)
  • Daily Crystals: Black Tourmaline & Kunzite
Am I glad today is over!  Gads, I hate Monday's but this one has been a doozey!   And I know it wasn't just me ... my boss was a little loopy after today too.  It was just one crazy thing after another ... maybe when Mercury is back to normal on Wednesday things will smooth out.

Sometimes I wish I could just run away from all this.  At least I can go home and hide out with all my crystals.  I should  clean my fish tanks, but they'll wait one more day.  Think I'll go play with some beads.

Time for some fun!

  • Mood: Feeling silly!
Sometimes online tests can be fun .. especially when you're bored.

You have to join the site that has these, but they are sort of interesting and there are a ton of tests there.

Elemental Balance test:

Your Score: Forest

~ 74% Water ~ 66% Wind ~ 77% Earth ~ 51% Fire ~

In your heart

there are flowering trees...

Hey, nice. It seems your personality is mostly balanced. You are likely intuitive, intelligent, and devoted.

However, if you ever feel like you need more energy to go on, try wearing a Fire Agate; it inspires self expression, courage and enthusiasm and thus help to balance out your somewhat shy Ground Chakra which is associated with the element of fire and represents our basic desires and driving force.

These are the results you will get if you score highly on...

None of the four elements: Balance Wind: Gust Fire: Blaze Water: River Earth: Valley Wind & Fire: Thunder Wind & Water: Clouds Wind & Earth: Canyon Fire & Earth: Lava Fire & Water: Tornado Water & Earth: Trees Wind, Fire & Earth: Storm Wind, Fire & Water: Stars Wind, Water & Earth: Forest Fire, Water & Earth: Avalanche All four elements: Harmony

Spirit Animal test:

Your Score: The Owl Spirit

You scored 62% Creativity, 59% Compassion, 51% Strength, and 56% Intelligence!

You are an Owl Spirit. You are very spiritual, and at wonder with the night. You think that the night is beautiful, and would prefer to be awake for it. You dream about flying, and your eyes are captivating. Owl spirits are very compassionate, and above all, creative. They are protectors of others.

I really love vacations but ....

  • Mood: Mellow
… cleaning up after a vacation is too much like work!

We got back from Mount Shasta Tuesday night about 8:30pm, but it was well after 11:00 by the time I’d unpacked, gone through 4 days worth of mail, and taken a shower. Wednesday we spent doing laundry and going through all the pictures that were taken on the trip … I think hubby took somewhere between 750 and 1000, but a lot of those were photos containing technical detail that he needs to work on his model railroad. Once the laundry got done, the fireworks were over (and the dog calmed down somewhat), I got some pics posted, and after hubby went to bed, I finally had a few minutes to jot down a few things about the trip.

We left Friday morning to head up to Mount Shasta and I was almost dreading the trip … not so much for the 600 mile drive, but because not only was Mercury retrograde (and still is) but the moon was full Saturday morning and we all know how insane drivers get the day or so before through the day after.  So I made up a little pouch for a bit of added protection.  Things went well on the trip … there was less traffic than expected and we actually got there in 9 ½ hours, including stops. The dinner train we like to ride on only runs Fridays and Saturdays in June, and since we were staying in Mount Shasta City (we usually stay in McCloud) hubby wanted a few pics of the train crossing one of the town’s streets, so we grabbed a quick bite at a burger joint and went to get him his pics.

Since we had plans to ride the train for dinner Saturday night, we spent the day in town shopping (well, I was shopping, hubby ran off to take more pics ) and I found a bunch of goodies for myself and my daughter. In my favorite crystal shop, I found a gorgeous chunk of epidote and a nice aragonite cluster. In another shop I found some tumbled celestite! I’ve never seen any celestite that’s been tumbled anywhere, so I was on cloud nine. At my last stop I found a bunch of gemstone beads to add to my stock for making rosaries, prayer chains and necklace/earring sets. Hubby wasn’t too thrilled with the cost, but he got over it later.

Dinner in the train was wonderful as usual, and it is just so cool rolling through the forest while eating on a train.  At one point hubby had been in the back of the train taking some pics and talking to the conductor, and when he came back he told me that we’d been invited (by the conductor) to ride up in the engine for a while. (we’ve been on the train at least 10 times over the last 10 years and most of the staff recognize us) Need I mention that hubby was like a kid in a toy store? The engineer even let him blow the whistle at a couple of crossings.

Sunday we had just planned to run around visiting some interesting areas, but after talking to the conductor on the train, hubby talked me into going over to Yreka in the morning to ride yet another train.   I almost declined because of the heat (I don’t do well if I get too hot) but when they mentioned that this train was doggie friendly, I couldn’t pass up the chance to see what Cindy would do on a train. It was too much fun to watch her watch the ground or passing buildings … she’s very smart and has a lot of curiosity. This train runs from Yreka to Montegue, and at the stop for lunch they switch the caboose and engine at a switching yard. Well, the conductor (same fellow from the dinner train) invited hubby to ride in the steam engine while they moved things around. I asked him later if it was worth what I spent on crystals to get to ride in not only one, but two engines … of course he said yes!

After we left the train in Yreka, we headed off to some spots hubby wanted to visit to take more pics and collect some dirt (for use on his model railroad). I love playing on dirt roads anyway, so it was kind of fun figuring out where to go. Once he was done, we went to the first of our interesting spots. Basically, we decided to FINALLY truly explore the Mount Shasta area. I knew it was a big metaphysical area, but I had no idea how big ... there are at least a dozen sacred Native American sites around there and quite a few have water sources, so all the areas I picked to go to were sacred sites that had bodies of water where I could scoop some up into little bottles to take home. Our first spot was McCloud Falls on the McCloud River. It’s such a wonderfully peaceful spot. And the dog loves to splash around in the water, so she had fun too. We got a little surprise when we got back to the truck … there were three deer grazing near the parking area.

Monday we spent driving around to a few other spots. First we drove up onto Mount Shasta to visit Panther Meadows. This site is still used by the local Native Americans for rituals and it was so peaceful sitting in the sun on the warm damp earth, with my hand in a natural spring and the breeze blowing around me.   After leaving the meadows, we drove the rest of the way up (as far as the road went) just to see where the road ended and got some great shots of the top of Mount Shasta. Then we went down into the valley to see Pluto Caves. Very awesome … not so much their looks (I’ve been in much prettier caves) but the energy in them was fantastic. The hike in and back was a killer since it was between 85° and 90°, but it was worth the effort.  Plus, we had a little visitor there as well ... a Western Tiger Swallowtail butterfly was sitting on one of the rocks at the cave mouth.

After we left the caves, we went back and picked up the dog (we’d left her “home” for the first two spots since she was tired from the day before and I really didn’t want to have to keep track of her in case I wanted to just veg or meditate for a little while) and then headed to Medicine Lake. So she played in the water a bit and I got some more water to take home.  I also grabbed up a few pieces of lava from the road up to the Medicine Lake area and found a small driftwood branch on the beach that will make a nice little wand.  And when we got back to the house, I found that the walnut tree out back had dropped a branch I was looking at earlier, so I can make 2 wands.

Tuesday morning we packed up the truck and headed over to Castle Lake before heading home. It’s a gorgeous alpine lake that shares a “wall” with the Castle Crags (an interesting formation on the other side of one of the peaks in the area). There were some beautiful bright blue dragonflies swarming around the trail near the lake and water striders looking for morsels on the water. Cindy got a little pick-me-up playing in the water while I collected some from there and then we headed home. And again, no where near as much traffic as I had expected so we had a mostly uneventful drive home as well … and we did it in 9 ½ hours that way too.

Now I need to take the truck in for maintenance since our 1500+ miles over the 5 days puts me over the point where I should have had an oil change. Sigh … back to the mundane stuff. At least we got some R&R and I feel back to my old self and not so stressed.
